“Hi Hon, it’s me”
“You sound like, Larry. You sure, you’re not Larry.”
“Five years and you don’t know your husband’s voice.”
“Well, you know, I’m in the tub and you know how the bathroom distorts the sound. And, anyway, I’m glad it’s you, sweetheart, not in the mood for Larry…just goes on and on about the market, the races and oh my god, that ‘Game of Thrones’.”
“I thought you liked ‘GOT’.”
“I do but Larry is obsessed with Daenerys Targaryen.”
“He’s not alone.”
“Yeah, I know, and you are too.”
“A good actress.”
“Yeah, yeah. Favor?”
“Sure.”
“Make us a couple of drinks.”
“Sure. I was going to call you earlier.”
“Oh?”
“And tell you I love you.”
“Ah, how sweet. You dial the wrong number, ’cause I didn’t get the call.”
“I didn’t make it.”
“Changed your mind?”
“A call came in, just as I was dialing.”
“Ah.”
“Yeah, some guy who said I should leave you.”
“What!”
“Yeah. He said you only stay for the money.”
“The nerve.”
“And then I asked him who he was.”
“Yeah, like he would tell you.”
“I know.”
“I would have hung up right then and there.”
“I know but, you know, curiosity…”
“Killed the cat.”
“Well, yeah, I’m glad we don’t have one.”
“Jesus, what an awful prank. You think it was someone in the office?”
“Not a clue.”
“Well, you do make a lot of money and, you know, jealousy can motivate horrible behavior.”
“That’s true. I got to thinking, I’ve given this guy too much time as it was and I’m about to hang up and then he said…”
“What! What he say?”
“That he could prove it.”
“Prove what!”
“That he made love to you.”
“You hung up then, sweetheart, didn’t you? Please tell me you did.”
“Well, curiosity…”
“Fuck curiosity…you hang up?”
“I did. You know I love you. I couldn’t listen anymore to his crap.”
“That’s right. Unadulterated crap. Lotta jerks out there with too much time on their hands.”
“You said it. What’s for dinner?”
“Pizza and beer.”
“And the movie?
“The Hasty Heart.”
“With Todd and Neal?”
“You got it. Tissues are on the coffee table.”
“Of course they are. And after the movie?”
“Where else, the bedroom where we reach for the sky.”
“That’s what he said.”
“Sorry, hon, I didn’t hear you.”
“Oh, nothing. Nothing important.”
